TDSS Graduation Awards


Rotary Club of Haileybury Award -Deadline for application TBA
Two recipients will be selected for this award:
- One recipient will be attending Northern College in September
- The second recipient must be attending post-secondary in the fall, but not specifically Northern College

To be considered for this award, students must apply directly to Rotary Club by submitting an essay of no more then 500 words explaining how they embody the values of Rotary in their lives.

Attention Graduates of NCDSB
The Northeastern Catholic DSB offers a $500 bursary to a former student who is now a Grade 12 graduating student and demonstrates leadership, is charitable to others, is active in our school community and has maintained a high standard in their academic studies. This award is called the NCDSB Academic Excellence and Leadership Award

To be eligible you must do the following by Friday, May 11th:

  • Complete the online grad awards survey (link below)...deadline has passed
  • Write a letter to Jennifer Dunkley, Superintendent of Education of     Northeastern Catholic District School Board, explaining why you should be selected to receive this award (see criteria above)
  • Provide a letter or letters of reference that demonstrate how you have been charitable to others.
Bring your letter to Ms. Dunkley and letter of reference to Guidance no later than Friday, May 11th to be considered for this award.

This is the link to the TDSS grad awards survey coming in APRIL




TIPS:
You only complete the survey once! 
You must have at least 15 minutes of uninterrupted time in order to complete the survey during one sitting. 
Ensure that you read the questions very carefully and prepare thoughtful answers for each of the response fields. 

NOTE: 
The survey will ask you to input your pathway plan for next year (work, specific college or university program or apprenticeship).  DO NOT attempt the survey until you have that information clarified or at least have a really good idea of what your post-secondary plan is.

Alfred & Kathleen Holmes Award / The Temiskaming Foundation
Awarded to a student proceeding to post-secondary education in the field of veterinary science, if none, then to a student proceeding to the field of medical science

Annie Belandis Memorial Award (2 Awards)
Awarded to two graduating students, one male and one female, who strive for academic excellence, focus on helping others and are pursuing post-secondary education in the field of medicine or health care professional

Art Spirit Award
Awarded to a Visual Art Student who has exhibited a strong interest, exceptional ability, and a love of art throughout his/her high school career and who has contributed to the spirit and advancement of the arts in our school community

Barney Morris Scholarship Fund / The Temiskaming Foundation
Awarded to a male or female student with good academic skills, going on to either college or university.  The student will have a passion for hockey and an intention to play at the post-secondary institution

Bruce Lonsdale Memorial Fund / The Temiskaming Foundation (2 Awards)
Awarded to a student attending the University of Waterloo, if none, then to a student attending any other post secondary educational institution

C.C. Farr Civic Award / The Temiskaming Foundation
Awarded to a student in Grade 11 or 12 that resides in the geographic area of Haileybury. This student has demonstrated civic activity or community service of an exemplary nature

Cobalt Silver Medallion Award
Presented by the Town of Cobalt to a deserving graduate from Cobalt

Cobalt St. James Anglican Church Award in Memory of Alex Adshead
Awarded to a community minded student with Christian values and principles who resides in Cobalt or Coleman Township and is pursuing higher education at the post-secondary level or entering an apprenticeship program in the trades or service industry

Cochrane Temiskaming Area Women’s Institute Scholarship
Awarded to a graduating student pursuing a career in the field of Family Studies, Food, Agriculture, Health or Trades

Compass Group Award
Presented to a student, chosen by the foods services staff, for his/her pleasant, courteous and respectful attitude

Co-op Education Award (2 Awards)
Presented to a student who is proceeding to post-secondary education and who best reflects the spirit of Co-operative Education

Danny Wilson Scholarship Fund / The Temiskaming Foundation
Awarded to a graduating student who is enrolled in the trades or an apprenticeship program upon graduation.  This student will demonstrate a combination of good marks, excellent skills, positive attitude and respect for both fellow students and teachers

Dean Karn Memorial Award
Awarded to a student with a mentoring  personality who has shown natural ability and problem solving skills in the area of woodworking, mechanics or welding

Don Perrin Music Award
Awarded to a deserving student in Music who makes an effort to achieve

Doug Worth Mathematics Award – The Temiskaming Foundation
Awarded to a graduating student who has shown a strong academic improvement in their  studies since completing grade 11 math

Doupe Bennett Lawyers Award
Awarded to the best overall student who is not an Ontario Scholar and is pursuing post secondary education. This student must have demonstrated a commitment to community involvemement and extracurricular activities or athletics.

Edna George Martyn Scholarship
Awarded to a student who has shown leadership, fairness and excellence in extracurricular sporting activities and plans to continue on to post-secondary education

Fifth Wheel Training Institute Award
Awarded to an individual who is a practical learner with a warm, outgoing personality who has demonstrated leadership and innovation and plans to enter the trades, by either attending college, registering for an apprenticeship or entering the workplace

First Aid Solutions and Training (FAST) Award - In recognition of a Health Care Red Seal Award)
Awarded by Thomas McLean to Health Care students who have achieved a Red Seal on their diploma through the Specialist High Skills Major Program

First Nation Education Scholarship in Memory of Allan Laronde
Awarded to a graduating First Nation Student from Bear Island or Temagami, associated with or a member of the Temagami First Nation, and proceeding to College, University or a Trades Apprenticeship Program


Frogs Breath Foundation Community Citizenship Award
Awarded to a deserving student who has been accepted to College or University and has shown tremendous dedicaton to the local community and its members

George L. Cassidy Bursary / The Temiskaming Foundation
Awarded to a deserving student from the municipalities of Haileybury, Cobalt or Coleman Township, who is furthering their studies in Art and/or Literature

Georgia-Pacific Trades and Technology Bursary
Presented to a student who possess leadership skills and has been accepted into an approved Trades and or Technology program either by attending College, University or registered into an Apprenticeship Program and has a desire to return to Northern Ontario

Grant Farms Stewardship Award
Awarded to a deserving student who has been accepted to a College or University and has a passion for and commitment to land management and/or farming

Guidance Department Award
Presented to a student who has demonstrated good employability skills, a willingness to help others, and who plans to enter the workforce

Howard Scott Memorial Health Care Award
Awarded to a student who has demonstrated leadership, compassion in caring for others and who will be furthering their skills in Health Care

Hudson Lions Club Award
Presented to a deserving student from the Hudson or Kerns Township area who is proceeding to post-secondary education

Katherine Alderdice Bursary
Awarded to a graduating female student who is proceeding to higher education

Ladies of the Altar Society of Latchford
Awarded to a graduating student from Latchford who is going on to further education

Lena & Andrew Kuchar Memorial Fund / The Temiskaming Foundation
Awarded to a student entering college/university to study Mining or a related field; if none, then to a student pursuing post secondary education in Agricultural Studies; if none, then to a deserving student attending post secondary education

MADD Student Bursary
Awarded to a graduate who shows qualities of leadership, acts as a role model to their peers and demonstrates a positive contribution to their school and/or community activities

Mikrolink Computers Laptop Award
Award to a graduating TDSS student who is enrolled in a post-secondary level.  This student will have demonstrated a combination of excellent attendance, excellent skills, good marks, positive attitude and respect for both students and faculty

New Liskeard Lions Club Citizenship Award
Presented to a student, who, in the opinion of the staff and student body has displayed the following qualities: leadership, responsibility, involvement, cooperation and congeniality

Northeastern Catholic District School Board's Award for Academic Excellence and Leadership
Presented to a former elementary graduate of the Northeastern Catholic District School Board who has demonstrated superior academic achievements, consistent leadership qualities and has been charitable and of service to others

Northern College Board of Governor's Entrance Scholarship
Awarded to a student of TDSS who has enrolled full-time in any post-secondary program on any campus of Northern College and has shown the highest academic standing and community involvement

Ontario Power Generation Secondary School Student Achievement Award (2 Awards)
Presented to a student who is entering post-secondary studies in Engineering/Electronics, Science, Information Technology, Environment, Mathematics, Physics or Business

Ontario Principal’s Council Award for Student Leadership
Presented to a graduating student who demonstrated exceptional leadership within the school

O.P.P. Youth Foundation Award
Awarded to a deserving graduate who is attending college, university or an apprenticeship program in 2016-17 and has demonstrated academic ability.

OSSTF – Educational Assistant & Professional Student Services Personnel Bursary (2 Awards)
Awarded to a graduating student enrolled in an Educational Assistant, Early Childhood Educator or Personal Support Staff program or to a student whose parent is a member of the support staff. If neither of the above then to a deserving student.

OSSTF  – Excellence in Education
Offered by the Ontario Secondary School Teachers Federation -Timiskaming District Secondary School Branch, and awarded to a student who has excelled in his/her contribution to school activities, in academic achievements and in dedication to excellence

Awarded to a graduating female student who is pursuing post-secondary education in the field of Visual Arts

Awarded to a student, in recognition of the achievements that Shannen made toward educating First Nation Youth, who displays leadership qualities, perseverance toward educational, family and life goals and is involved with culturally based activities.

Awarded to a student who possesses qualities that exemplify the Smylie family; hard work, compassion, integrity, participation in school or community activities and the ability to motivate and inspire other people

Donated by the Social Science & Humanities Department to a deserving graduate who is continuing his/her studies or entering the workforce in these fields

Awarded to a well organized, hard working student in auto class who is registered in an apprenticeship or post secondary program.  An auto student should be given first priority, then a construction student and  then welding student should be considered

Awarded to a graduating student who has demonstrated exceptional ability in Technical Studies and is pursuing Technical Education at the post-secondary level
